A Case of Primary Bacteremia due to Group C Streptococcus
Abstract
Group C streptococcus is a common pathogen in animals and may colonize the human throat, skin, urogenital tract, gastrointestinal tract and newborn umbilicus. While serious human diseases due to this organism are much less common than that caused
by the
other serotypes, a variety of infectious syndromes have been reported. Among the spectrum of infections due to group C streptococcus, primary bacteremia is extremely rare.
We experienced a case of primary bacteremia caused by group C streptococcus. The patient was a 56-year-old female who had suffered from recurrent multiple intrahepatic duct stones. She was successfully managed with antibiotics. We reported this
case
with a review of literatures.
